MAHSHAHR (NIPNA) – Hassan Abbaszadeh, Deputy Minister of Petroleum and CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), has called for deeper alignment between Iran’s research infrastructure and the operational needs of the petrochemical industry during a visit to the Petrochemical Research and Technology Company (PRTC) in Mahshahr.

Speaking at a technical meeting with PRTC staff and executives, Abbaszadeh underscored the strategic importance of leveraging existing R&D capacity to address production challenges, stating that “research must remain tightly coupled with industry to drive innovation, resilience, and efficiency.”

Geographic Proximity as a Strategic Asset

Abbaszadeh highlighted the proximity of PRTC to major industrial complexes in the Mahshahr Petrochemical Special Economic Zone as a “valuable opportunity” to ensure research outputs are responsive and readily deployable.

“This physical closeness should translate into agile support for production units, especially in tackling technological bottlenecks,” he added.

Research Serving Industry

Reaffirming NPC’s commitment to an industry-driven research model, Abbaszadeh emphasized that laboratories, pilot plants, and scientific capabilities must serve as direct enablers of industrial growth. He urged production companies to actively utilize PRTC’s resources and push for smarter, demand-oriented innovation.

“Research should not remain abstract or academic—it must become a practical partner in overcoming the industry's challenges,” he said.

Institutional Coordination and Private Sector Support

Abbaszadeh also reiterated the government's role in reinforcing private sector development through targeted research infrastructure. He described PRTC as a potential “strategic and scientific extension of production companies,” especially in efforts to boost productivity and technological resilience.

He further called for the systematic identification of the petrochemical sector’s technological needs and emphasized the need to establish an effective communication framework between R&D centers and operational units.

Concluding Visit and Acknowledgement

The Deputy Minister concluded his visit with a tour of PRTC’s laboratories, pilot research facilities, and ongoing projects, expressing appreciation for the efforts of the company’s management and staff.

This visit reflects NPC’s broader vision of reinforcing the research-production continuum as part of Iran’s petrochemical modernization strategy, particularly amid the country’s emphasis on domestic innovation, self-reliance, and operational excellence.
