TEHRAN (NIPNA) — Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) has initiated two major strategic programs aimed at completing the petrochemical value chain and preparing the industry for future global scenarios, according to a senior company official.

Hossein Alimorad, Director of Planning and Development at NPC, said the company is currently developing a comprehensive Petrochemical Industry Strategic Plan and conducting an Industry Foresight Study in collaboration with Sharif University of Technology.

“The strategic plan is expected to be contracted within the coming month, while the foresight project will likely be signed by the end of June,” Alimorad stated. “The study is designed to build development scenarios and formulate responsive strategies to global market dynamics.”

Alimorad emphasized that this initiative is not just a corporate strategy but a national roadmap intended to align the entire petrochemical sector toward future challenges and opportunities. The foresight project is being developed with active input from industry experts and leading academics from Sharif University.

Digital Monitoring and AI Integration Under Development Plan Mandate

The NPC is also responding to a legal mandate outlined in Article 44 of Iran’s Seventh Five-Year Development Plan, which requires the Ministry of Petroleum to implement intelligent monitoring across the petrochemical industry using cutting-edge technologies and artificial intelligence.

As part of this effort, a smart material and energy balance system is under development. “The system will enable real-time data analysis, operational optimization, and predictive modeling across the sector,” Alimorad explained.

This project stems from a trilateral memorandum signed last year between the NPC, the Vice Presidency for Science and Technology, and Sharif University. It has now reached the implementation phase following sustained follow-up by NPC’s CEO.

The intelligent system aims to support decision-making at both strategic and operational levels, particularly in production, energy efficiency, and market behavior forecasting.

Alimorad concluded by highlighting the readiness of Iran’s petrochemical sector to embrace this transformation. “The industry has both the human capital and technical infrastructure to lead this digital evolution,” he said. “We are taking a significant step toward building a smart, future-ready ecosystem in this vital sector of the national economy.”
