Tehran (NIPNA) – A senior representative of South Africa’s Maponya Investment Holdings has expressed strong interest in exploring trade opportunities with Iran’s petrochemical sector, describing the country's industrial achievements as “remarkable” despite years of international sanctions.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 7th Iran Expo, Fatodi Elias, a member of the Matome Maponya Investment Group, told NIPNA that his visit aimed to assess collaboration prospects with Iranian petrochemical companies and engage in business discussions.

“I came with an open mind, representing our group, to explore commercial partnerships with Iranian counterparts,” Elias said. “The technological and industrial progress I’ve witnessed here is impressive, especially considering the external limitations your country has faced.”

Elias emphasized that the group is now studying pathways for cooperation in Iran, and is particularly focused on arranging business meetings with Iranian firms operating in areas aligned with the group’s core interests.

“One of our trading companies is active in the field of petrochemical products, net derivatives, and liquid silicone rubber (LSR). We are evaluating Iranian suppliers based on pricing, tariff conditions, and technical capacity to export the materials we need,” he added.

The 7th Iran Expo officially opened on April 29 and has attracted delegations from 111 countries, including 190 high-ranking officials and over 3,100 foreign business participants.

More than 1,000 Iranian firms are showcasing export capabilities during the five-day event at Tehran's International Permanent Fairground. The exhibition highlights Iran's potential to export goods and technical-engineering services worldwide.

Iran’s petrochemical sector is being prominently featured at the expo, with key segments covering methanol, urea, chemicals, and polymers.
