TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iran has signed a $17 billion contract for the pressure-boosting project at the South Pars gas field, marking a major step toward sustaining gas production at the world's largest gas reservoir. The deal was inked on Saturday in the presence of Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian and senior oil industry officials.

The agreement was signed between the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) and a consortium comprising Petropars, Khatam al-Anbiya Construction Headquarters, Oil Industries’ Engineering and Construction (OIEC), and MAPNA Group.

The pressure-boosting project aims to counteract declining pressure, maintain maximum gas production, reduce imbalances in gas and gasoline supply, and prevent gas migration to Qatar, which shares the field with Iran.

Under the project, South Pars will be divided into seven pressure-boosting hubs, with each hub requiring approximately 60,000 tons of structures. In total, 420,000 tons of infrastructure will be built, with 70% of the required materials sourced domestically.

Beyond securing Iran's energy future, the initiative is expected to create 17,000 direct jobs and 50,000 indirect jobs.

With this contract, Iran's oil and gas sector enters a new phase of sustainable development, ensuring long-term gas supply and economic stability.
