TEHRAN (NIPNA) – A member of Iran’s parliamentary Industries and Mines Commission has called for prioritizing petrochemical sector expansion, citing its critical role in driving non-oil exports and economic growth.

Farhad Tahmasebi told NIPNA that strengthening Iran’s position in regional and global markets through increased petrochemical production is a key strategic objective.

He emphasized that achieving these goals would enhance export revenues, reduce dependence on crude oil sales, and support the development of downstream industries.

"Despite economic challenges and sanctions, Iran’s petrochemical sector has continuously expanded its production capacity in recent years, underscoring its strategic significance," Tahmasebi said.

Highlighting the industry’s potential, he described petrochemicals as Iran’s largest non-oil export sector, benefiting from world-class infrastructure and a skilled workforce.

"For Iran’s economy to advance, expanding petrochemical production and exports is the most effective path forward," he added, stressing that the sector plays a crucial role in resisting sanctions and minimizing crude oil dependency.

Iran's petrochemical industry is a key pillar of its non-oil revenue strategy, with ongoing investments aimed at boosting output and global market share.
