Speaking to NIPNA, Abbas Argon highlighted the industry’s pivotal
contribution as an economic driver, despite various challenges. "The
petrochemical sector, as a leading economic force, has delivered defensible
performance by increasing production and exports of petrochemical products in
line with the country’s overarching policies," he said. "Even in
adverse conditions, this industry has succeeded in earning significant foreign
currency revenues for the nation."
Argon noted the sector's potential to accelerate national economic and
industrial progress if its momentum continues as planned. "With proper
execution, the petrochemical industry's locomotive can drive the country's
economic growth forward, leveraging the unique advantages this sector
offers."
He further emphasized the transformative power of downstream
petrochemical activities. "With favorable conditions, downstream
development can prevent raw material exports, boost non-oil exports, generate
foreign currency revenues, and alleviate poverty. It holds the potential to
become a major engine for job creation, higher value addition, and completing
the value chain within the country," Argon said.
Argon concluded with optimism about the industry's future. "The
petrochemical sector has achieved significant maturity. We hope to witness its
continued prosperity and further leaps in the near future, which will make a
substantial contribution to the nation's economic development."
