TEHRAN (NIPNA) – The Head of the HSE Department at the Ministry of Petroleum stated that petrochemical companies have consistently been at the forefront of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices within the industry.

Speaking at the 6th Specialized Safety and Firefighting Conference for the Petrochemical Industry, Shahram Ahmadi emphasized the critical role of HSE in the sector, highlighting that the companies’ exemplary performance has made them leaders in this field within the oil industry. The event brought together over 70 HSE managers, safety and firefighting chiefs from petrochemical firms, and specialists in the field.

Ahmadi stressed the importance of organizing such conferences and commended the significant position HSE holds within the petrochemical sector.

He reiterated that preventing accidents and damages is the overarching goal in HSE, stressing that safety must be prioritized across all aspects of operations to ensure sustainable production and protect both physical assets and human capital.

"Commitment to safety principles must be a fundamental criterion when selecting senior managers for any organization," Ahmadi remarked.

He also highlighted transparency as a vital aspect of HSE practices, warning that a lack of transparency and the concealment of incidents could mislead senior leaders and lead them down the wrong path.

"In HSE, we deal with various organizational layers and specialized areas, which makes ensuring the professional competence of safety personnel essential. This should be a long-term priority for all companies and organizations," he added.

Ahmadi also reviewed key incidents from the previous year, emphasizing the importance of adhering to HSE requirements during major overhauls and the critical role of operational discipline in preventing accidents within the oil industry.

In his address, Davood Emadi, Director of HSE and Civil Defense at the National Petrochemical Company, highlighted the significance of the conference in fostering collaboration among petrochemical firms and their holding companies.

He noted that the conference aimed to share safety strategies, introduce new technologies and scientific advancements in safety and firefighting, and exchange industry expertise.

Emadi further discussed efforts to optimize the implementation of Process Safety Management (PSM) in the petrochemical sector, emphasizing the need to utilize modern methods to create a safer environment for petrochemical projects and facilities, leveraging all available resources.
