TEHRAN (NIPNA) - Hassan Abbaszadeh, Iran’s Deputy Petroleum Minister and CEO of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), emphasized the importance of diversifying fuel sources to mitigate energy imbalances and ensure a stable supply of feedstock for the petrochemical industry.

Speaking at a specialized workshop on Tuesday, Abbaszadeh identified synthetic natural gas (SNG) as a viable alternative fuel due to the country’s abundant LPG production capacity.

He underscored the need for technical feasibility studies and the development of necessary infrastructure to integrate SNG into the sector.

“Energy imbalances have reduced the operational capacity of some petrochemical complexes,” Abbaszadeh said. “By optimizing energy consumption and expanding our fuel portfolio, we can address these challenges effectively.”

Abbaszadeh also highlighted renewable energy as a core strategy for the petrochemical industry, noting progress made in this area.

“The industry has shown promising results in renewable energy development, and we are determined to sustain this momentum,” he added.

The workshop, organized by the NPC, brought together representatives from key energy utility providers, including Fajr, Mobin, and Damavand, as well as specialists from Bandar Imam Petrochemical Company and national experts in SNG technologies. Discussions focused on practical solutions for adopting SNG in the sector.

The initiative aligns with Iran’s broader efforts to enhance energy efficiency and increase the value-added potential of its hydrocarbon resources.
