The agreement was made
between the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone Organization, the Islamic
Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Department of Natural Resources and
Watershed Management, and the Department of Environmental Protection of
Khuzestan Province.
The initiative aims to
reduce environmental impacts and control dust storms, which have long been a
major environmental issue for the region, particularly affecting the people of
Bandar Mahshahr and Hendijan. These dust storms have caused significant disruptions
to local communities.
Under the MoU, signed by
the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone Organization on behalf of the
petrochemical companies within the region's Strategic Council, efforts will
include watershed management, rainwater harvesting, control of surface runoff,
and tree planting over a 10,000-hectare area spanning the Bandar Mahshahr to
Hendijan region.
Additionally, the
agreement outlines plans for afforestation along the roadways between Bandar
Mahshahr and Hendijan, and between the city of Khomeini to the Petrochemical
Special Economic Zone.
