In a workshop on climate change and carbon management held
alongside the 15th Iran Petrochemical Forum (IPF), Morteza Ashrafi Shahrani,
Director of Energy Consumption Optimization at the National Petrochemical
Company, emphasized the importance of leveraging domestic capacities and
successful global experiences to implement effective carbon management in the
petrochemical sector.
He noted that to assess the impact of climate change
policies on the petrochemical industry and to develop strategic approaches, the
"Strategic Carbon Management Program" was initiated in 2021 by the
company’s Health, Safety, and Environment Management. He mentioned ongoing
efforts to institutionalize and implement shared goals within the sector.
Ashrafi Shahrani highlighted that the topic of carbon
management and greenhouse gas reduction is being pursued as a national
strategy, aimed at protecting the environment and optimizing consumption. He
indicated that the company would utilize all available resources and foster
collaborative efforts with holding companies and petrochemical firms.
He pointed out that the significance of carbon management
encompasses various aspects, including environmental pollution, climate change,
and economic considerations, which collectively lead to a range of challenges.
The 15th Iran Petrochemical Forum (IPF) commenced today,
August 4, 2024, under the theme of "Clean Technology," focusing on
exploring new horizons for sustainable development in the petrochemical
industry.
