TEHRAN (NIPNA) - Iran has inaugurated its largest industrial wastewater treatment plant at the Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex, marking a significant step towards environmental protection and sustainable development.

On Monday, June 24, 2024, the first phase of the central wastewater treatment plant at Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex was officially launched. The project, a strategic initiative aimed at safeguarding the environment, involved an investment of $40 million. The inauguration was conducted by Mohammad Mokhber, Acting President, via video conference and attended by Javad Owji, Minister of Petroleum, and Morteza Shahmirzaei, Deputy Minister of Petroleum and CEO of the National Petrochemical Company.

The first phase of the treatment plant, with an annual capacity of 8.3 million tons, aims to protect the environment and the marine ecosystem of the Bandar Mahshahr region while fulfilling the company's social responsibility commitments. The facility features two main sections: wastewater treatment and desalination, producing over 26,000 cubic meters of reverse osmosis (RO) water, significantly reducing the complex's water consumption.

The central wastewater treatment plant at Bandar Imam Petrochemical Complex, constructed on a 6-hectare site, showcases the expertise and capabilities of Iranian specialists, underlining the country's commitment to environmental stewardship and industrial innovation.
