TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- The Head of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) at Aryasasol Polymer Company emphasized on Sunday that the main factor leading to incidents in the petrochemical industry has been the disregard for the fundamental principles and requirements of process safety management.

Speaking on the sidelines of the inaugural Process Safety Conference in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, Ardevan Farzinpour stated that the analysis of various incidents over the past years has revealed that the primary cause of these incidents is the lack of attention to the foundations and obligations of process safety management.

Farzinpour went on to explain that the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries, given the presence of hazardous chemicals and the complexity of their processes, are exposed to numerous risks. These risks can impact the safety of workers, the performance of equipment, and ultimately, an organization's production levels and profitability.

He stressed the necessity of employing various risk assessment methods, underlining the importance of process risk management. This approach, which has evolved over the years, has gained significant attention in industrial communities, starting with the API standard in the 1990s with 11 components, followed by OSHA guidelines with 14 components, and eventually the CCPS-based risk guidelines in 2007, which incorporated 20 components.

Farzinpour noted the importance of advancing knowledge and utilizing modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, for identifying, assessing, and controlling dynamic process risks and preventing incidents. Aryasasol Polymer Company has taken initial steps in this direction.

In recent years, notable efforts have been made in the fields of process safety management concepts and implementation within Iran's oil, gas, and petrochemical industries. The conference serves as an opportunity for discussions, interactions, and the sharing of experiences.

While highlighting the critical role of process safety management in achieving continuous, safe, and sustainable production and optimizing production efficiency, Farzinpour expressed his hope that the event would serve as a vital starting point for the reevaluation and continuous improvement of safety processes in the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors.
