TEHRAN (NIPNA) -- A roadmap for cooperation between Iran and Uzbekistan in the oil, gas, and petrochemical industries has been formulated, coinciding with the visit of the Uzbekistan President and his accompanying delegation to Tehran.

This roadmap is in line with the implementation of the agreements reached between the Iranian and Uzbekistani Ministers of Oil and Energy.

During the visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the President of Uzbekistan, and his delegation to Tehran to execute the provisions of the September 14, 2022 (23rd of Shahrivar 1401) memorandum of understanding between the Iranian and Uzbekistani Ministers of Oil and Energy, Azim Hujayev, the First Deputy Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan, led an expert delegation in the field of oil and gas to discuss the implementation of the aforementioned memorandum and the resolution of existing obstacles during a meeting with Ahmad Asadzadeh, the Deputy of International and Commercial Affairs at the Ministry of Petroleum.

During the meeting, a special emphasis was placed on expanding mutually beneficial relations between the two countries and their cooperation in all sectors of the oil, gas, refining, and petrochemical industries.

In bilateral discussions, various areas of cooperation between the two countries in the upstream and downstream sectors of oil and gas, joint scientific collaborations, and the organization of specialized training courses were examined. Consequently, a joint committee for "Oil, Gas, and Petrochemicals" was formed to follow up on the agreed-upon matters by the oil and energy ministries of both countries.

According to Shana news agency, high-ranking officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran and Uzbekistan, in the presence of Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, the President of Iran, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, who visited Tehran yesterday (Monday, 28th of Khordad), signed a joint statement and ten cooperation documents. These documents include a preferential trade agreement, transportation and transit, pharmaceutical cooperation, standardization and insurance programs, feasibility study for the establishment of joint free zones, implementation plan for cooperation in technology and innovation, and an execution plan for cooperation in the agricultural sector.
