TEHRAN (NIPNA) – Iran has launched a new petrochemical project which has made it self-sufficient in production of hexane and pentane.

Addressing a virtual ceremony to launch Elixir Halal Assaluyeh Petrochemical Plant, the CEO of Takht-e Jamshid Pars Assaluyeh Petrochemical Plant said by commissioning the plant, Iran has become self-sufficient in production of hexane and pentane.

Mohammad Reza Akhavan said on Thursday, May 20, that the plant has made Iran needless of importing the two items.

Built by the private sector with $48 million of investment, project is meant to produce 40,000 tons of hexane and 10,000 tons pentane annually, he said.

The official further stated that the unit is designed to eliminate the missing link in the petrochemical industry for polyethylene and polystyrene solvents. Before this Iran needed to import the items from other countries.
