Speaking to NIPNA, Mousa Mousavi, a member of the parliament’s energy committee, said the leap and development of the petrochemical industry will create a great change in this industry.
"Employment and currency appreciation are among the important achievements of the leap of the petrochemical industry,” the MP said.
Mousavi said: "Currently, various petrochemical complexes are active producing various strategic items in the country, and production of various polymer and chemical products in this industry will increase significantly once the second and third leaps are realized.
The member of the Gas and Petrochemical Committee of the Islamic Consultative Assembly added: "Employment creation, hard currency generation, self-sufficiency in the production of items, prevention of crude sales and increasing the number of items supplied domestically are among the achievements of the second and third leaps in the petrochemical industry."
Emphasizing that more attention to the petrochemical industry could turn Iran into a regional and even trans-regional hub in petrochemicals production, he noted construction of the projects of the second and third petrochemical leap are in full swing.
Iran plans to bring its annual petrochemical production capacity to 100 million tons from currently 66 mt/y by 2022 and 130 mt/y by 2026.
