Seyed Abdul Azim Pelasaeidi,
CEO of Islamabad Gharb Petrochemical Industries Company, told NIPNA that the National
Petrochemical Company (NPC) had initiated studies for developing a new petrochemical
facility in the western province of Kermanshah by relying on local technical savvy
and catalysts.
"Fortunately,
all the infrastructure, including gas, water, electricity, land, access roads
and the related permits, have been obtained and prepared for the project,"
Pelasaeidi said.
He added: "This
project will be constructed on a land with an approximate area of 54 hectares and the engineering activities of converting
natural gas to methanol with a capacity of 660,000 tons per year and converting
methanol to propylene with a capacity of 120,000 tons per year are nearly
complete and documentation of basic engineering for production of 120,000 has commenced.”
Pelasaeidi noted
that construction of this project, while localizing and using the capabilities
of local manufacturers, would ensure prosperity of Iranian manufacturers in the
regions while paving the path for construction of 24 similar projects which
were hamstrung because of the sanctions and lack of access to the required
technical knowhow.
He also said that the
project’s first phase would produce propylene from methanol which is seriously
needed as a feedstock in the regional plants for production of polypropylene.
